âś… Do:
Plant in a sheltered, warm spot away from cold night winds (near walls, courtyards, hotel gardens).
Combine with other tropical plants (banana, gingers, canna, philodendron) for humidity and wind protection.
Mulch thickly with leaf litter or compost to keep soil moist and cool.
Divide and replant clumps every 3–4 years if they become crowded or weak.
Use as a feature plant near paths, entrances, or water features for a strong tropical feeling.
❌ Don’t:
Don’t plant in cold, exposed, windy spots – leaves tear and growth stalls.
Don’t let soil dry out completely – it will stop flowering and look weak.
Don’t keep in heavy, waterlogged clay – rhizomes rot easily.
Don’t give strong chemical fertilizer on dry soil – always water first.
Don’t leave dense, old stems unthinned – this reduces flowering and invites disease.
